Shirley Ann Smith, 70, of Salem, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2015. She was born on January 20, 1945 in Chester, PA to the late Charles Sylvester and Helen Margaret Smith. Shirley retired from Merriott Hotels as a Laundry Attendant, and had been previously employed by Halmode Apparel in their belt department prior to closing. She loved playing bingo and cards, and watching T.V. Land was her favorite pass time activity. In addition to her birth parents, she was also preceded in death by her father, James H. Sult, and her brother, Edward Lee Smith. Family remaining to cherish her memory includes her daughter, Tammy Houchin and husband, Virgil; granddaughter, Brandi Houchin; sister, Mary S. Foster and husband, George; nephew, George C. Foster and wife, Francine; nieces, Rhonda, Gretchen and Maggie Foster; and loving k-9 companion, Ethel. The family will receive friends for a time of remembrance on Thursday, March 5, 2015 from 6 until 8 p.m. at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem.
