Shirley Ann Goodwin Price, 92, of Salem, Virginia, peacefully passed into her heavenly home on Friday, January 23, 2026, surrounded by her family. Born on April 9, 1933, in Salem, Virginia, to the late Elbert M. and Callie Hickson Goodwin, she is also preceded in death by her sisters, Wyoma Rock, Carolyn Anderson, and Arabelle Goodwin; and brothers, Lynwood Goodwin and Jack Goodwin.
Shirley called Salem home her entire life. The eldest of all of her siblings, she married her husband, Russell and together, they raised their family in Salem. Shirley was a homemaker who warmly welcomed her children's many friends into her home with homecooked meals, spontaneous sleepovers and lots of hugs and kisses. Shirley was an avid reader and loved flowers, her favorites being petunias and roses. She enjoyed going to the beach and loved to collect unique rocks from all of her trips and adventures; family and friends brought rock treasures to her as well. Shirley was a mighty prayer warrior who loved God with her whole heart. She began going to church with her grandmother when she was a little girl and she faithfully served the Lord all her adult life. Shirley never ceased to pray over her friends, family and church family. She loved to read the Word of God, her heart's desire being to learn and understand all she could and share her heart with others. She loved reading about and hearing the testimonies of things God has done. Shirley loved people and always made time to share a conversation or a hug. She was a "mom" to many, she had the sweetest disposition and no one else could give hugs like her.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her husband of 73 years, Russell E. Price; son, Russell "Russ" Price, Jr. and Sandra, of Salem; daughters, Anne P. Price and husband, Kenny, of Ironto, and Amy P. Nance, and husband, Shane, of Salem; grandchildren, Andre' Hardy, Amber Hardy, and Adrianna Nance; eleven great-grandchildren; brother, Bill Goodwin and wife, Penny; brother-in-law, H.D. Price and wife, Ginny of Colorado; sister-in-law, Doris Hill, of North Carolina; her fur (dog) baby, "Patsy" and her feather baby, "Baby"; as well as a host of family and many friends.
The family will welcome friends for a time of visitation on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., in the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Steve Parker officiating. Interment immediately following in Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem.
