Shirley Shepherd Jones

Shirley Shepherd Jones, 73, of Salem and formerly of Newport, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 30, 2012. She served as a local den leader for 31 years with the Boy Scouts of America. She also taught Sunday School for over 15 years at Central United Methodist Church in Salem where she was also a member for more than 50 years. Preceding her in death were her parents, Cecil Haynes and Georgia Shepherd. Her surviving family includes her husband of 55 years, George Lee Jones; children, Debbie J. Stratton and husband, Andrew, Donald W. Jones and wife, Yvette, David K. Jones and wife, Shirlann, and Dennis E. Jones and wife, Mary; grandchildren, T.J. Stratton and wife, Crystal, Lindsey Millard and husband, Ryan, Jason Jones and fiance, Casey Steagall, Johnathan Jones, Whitney Jones, Jordan Jones, Caleb Jones, Coraleigh Jones, and Landon Jones; great-grandchildren, Bailey and Lacey Stratton, and Thomas, Ethan, and Claire Millard; sister, Barbara Shepherd; stepmother, Mary Shepherd; and many other family members. The family will receive friends on Monday, September 3, 2012 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church in Salem with Pastor Kristin Holbrook officiating.
