Shirley Ann Campbell Duncan, age 79, of Salem, VA passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 in Blacksburg, VA. She was born on Wednesday, October 26, 1938 in Roanoke, Virginia, to the late Frances Slaydon Campbell and Clarence Robert Campbell. She attended Jefferson High School where, while working on the student newspaper, she met the love of her life, Richard Lee Duncan. They graduated in 1956 and were married two years later at Waverly Place Baptist Church in SE Roanoke. She worked for Allstate to help put Richard through Roanoke College to earn his teaching degree. They moved to Salem in 1966, where she devoted herself as a full-time mom to her children, Gregory, David, and Kate. As the children grew, she returned to work for Allstate for a time, before switching careers to become a skilled dental appliance technician with Saunders Dental Laboratory in Roanoke until she retired to take full-time care of her mother and mother-in-law. She loved reading, cooking, gardening, finding flea market treasures, marathon sessions of cross-stitch, her cats, and spending time with her three granddaughters. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Richard, her brother Dr. Frank Campbell, and her half-brother Bob Campbell. She is survived by her daughter, Kate Duncan of Salem, VA; son, David Duncan and wife, Karen of Fairfax, VA, and Gregory Duncan and wife, Carol of Mt. Airy, NC; granddaughters, Amanda and Courtney, Kyra; sister-in-law, Janet Campbell; nieces Cathy Burgess and Donna Burki.
