Shirley Bradford Burris

Shirley Bradford Burris, 77 of Salem, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 6, 2013. She was born on May 10, 1935 in Montgomery Co. VA to the late Archie Lester, and Sadie Clark Bradford. Ms. Burris enjoyed many of the finer things of life, such as reading a good book, watching her favorite television shows; Andy Griffith, Jeopardy, and Nascar racing being at the top of the list, and eating KFC chicken. She also enjoyed traveling and listening to good music, as she loved when the local country and gospel bands came to play for residents at Ridgecrest. Above all she will be remembered for love she gave as a wife, mother and grandmother to her four legged grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John Marshall Burris, and three brothers, Gratton, Vernon, and Frazer Bradford. She is survived by her daughter, Valerie Burris Delong and husband, David; brother, Russell Bradford; sisters, Rushie Wooldridge, Marie Surface and husband, Ed, and Phyllis Wheeler and husband, Jack; special friends, Donna Snellings and James Dudley. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 from 6 until 8 p.m. at John M. Oakey & Son funeral home in Salem.
