Sheldon Scott Smith

Sheldon 'Scott' Smith, 51, of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, July 13, 2026. Born on August 20, 1974, Scott was preceded in death by his father, Sheldon D. "Pete" Smith; his brother, Tom Smith; his maternal grandparents, Frederick and Zella Coleman; his paternal grandparents, Betty and Buddy Hall; and his beloved Uncle Phil Coleman.

Scott is survived by his loving and devoted mother, Carolyn Coleman Smith; his brother, Shane Smith; and his sister, Tami Kuehn (Al). He is also survived by his nieces, Allyson and Hannah; his aunts, Judy Olson (Gerald), Kim Jones (Kevin), and Cheryl Coleman (Kenneth); his uncle, Henry Hall; and many cousins. As the oldest of the cousins, Scott was dearly loved and cherished by them all. They shared many wonderful times together, especially gathering to play guitar, laugh, and simply enjoying each other's company.

The family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Scott's lifelong friends, Bill, Dave, and Kevin. Their enduring friendship and unwavering kindness meant so much to him throughout his life.

Scott attended Salem High School, the Roanoke Governor's School, and Roanoke College, where he studied theater and drama. He appeared in numerous stage productions in both high school and college and was talented not only as an actor but also in designing and building stage sets. While Scott had a fun-loving and playful spirit, he approached his work with great dedication and precision. He was meticulous in everything he did, always striving to do things the right way, no matter how much time it required. He enjoyed taking on projects and was always willing to lend a helping hand to others.

Music was one of Scott's greatest passions. At a very young age, he amazed his family by playing the piano by ear at his Granny Zella's house. Over the years, he became an accomplished guitarist, loved restoring vintage stereo equipment, and had a deep appreciation for quality sound systems and all things music. Scott was also a lifelong NASCAR fan, rarely missing a weekend race. He loved motorcycles as well, spending countless hours with Uncle Phil watching him work on Harleys before eventually owning and enjoying one of his own.

From the moment he was born, Scott was adored by his parents. He grew into a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend with a quick wit, a generous heart, and a gentle spirit. His kindness, humor, creativity, and love for those around him will be remembered always. Scott touched many lives, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites friends and loved ones to honor Scott by listening to your favorite music, sharing stories, and reminiscing about the happy memories you shared with him.
