Sarah "Irene" (Dennis) Jeffreys, of Salem, Va. went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, May 31, 2025.
Ms. Jeffreys was born on December 28, 1946, in Stanley County, N.C., daughter of the late Henry and Jeddi M. Chandler Dennis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Rev. George Jeffreys, Jr.; brothers, Jesse and Larry Dennis; sisters, Margarette Hicks, Ann Clark, Louise Burris, and Helen Sasser.
As a pastor's wife of 50 years, Ms. Jeffreys served, alongside her husband, her Lord in many roles throughout the years. She was most recently a member of Bethel Baptist Church of Salem. Prior to retirement and moving to Virginia, she managed food service in the local school system in North Carolina, a role sufficient for the awesome cook she was. Baking, as her family would testify, was truly her gift, as she absolutely loved to bake. Her humble and compassionate personality was also a recognized quality to anyone that knew her, but family will remember her most for the love she had for them. She was a very proud mother of two, grandmother of five, and great-grandmother of one.
Family remaining to cherish her memory includes her son, Hilton Jeffreys (Amy) of Salem; daughter, Hope Jeffreys Lee (Chris), of Aulander, N.C.; siblings, Bob Dennis (Barbara); grandchildren, Kaitlyn Puckett (Jake), Kyndal Jeffreys and fiancé, Blake Miller, Caleb Jeffreys, Stephen Lee (Bethany), and Matthew Lee; and her great-grandson, Hayes Puckett.
A graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church Cemetery, 8630 Hillcrest Drive, Rockwell, N.C.
A special memorial service to honor Ms. Jeffreys life is scheduled for Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, 1601 S Colorado St, Salem, Va.
