Sarah Burris Bradford

Sarah Burris Bradford, 93, of Salem, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 20, 2013. She was born in Norfolk, VA on January 28, 1920 and had been an area resident all her life. Mrs. Bradford was a longtime member of Gospel Baptist Church and loved serving the Lord. She enjoyed cooking, beautiful flowers, and had a great sense of humor. She was preceded in death by her parents William Daniel Burris and Sarah Wimmer Burris as well as an infant son, Donnie Ray Bradford. A devoted wife and loving mother, she is survived by her husband of over 67 years, Carl E. Bradford; two sons, Gary Bradford and his wife Sandra, Roger Bradford, his mothers dedicated caregiver; two brothers, Jackie Burris and wife Reba; Bobby Burris and wife Donna; a sister, Nancy Williams and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem with Rev. Sam Huntley, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at the funeral home.
