Samuel Edward Harvey Jr.

Reverend Dr. Samuel Edward Harvey, Jr., 78, of Salem, went to be with our Lord after a courageous battle with cancer Sunday, June 21, 2015. Sam was born in Roanoke, VA on January 10, 1937 to the late Sam and Frances Harvey. Sam Jr. married the love of his life, Rosanna Barr, on June 23, 1962 and they served together as he pastored churches on the east coast of North Carolina and Virginia until retiring in 1999, returning to Salem, VA. Well done good and faithful servant defines the life he led. Sam is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rosanna; their son, Edward Harvey of Salem, VA; daughter, Julie Bowling and her husband Barry; grandson, Hunter; and granddaughter, Blair of Raleigh, NC. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 from 5 until 7 p.m. at John M. Oakey & Son funeral home in Salem. A celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 25, 2015 at Salem Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Salem Baptist Church, 103 N.
