Samuel Louis "Sambo" Coffey

With deep sadness, we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Samuel L. "Sambo" Coffey, 34, of Salem, Va., on September 22, 2026.

Born November 10, 1991, in Roanoke, Va. to Reamona Bowles Coffey and the late John David Coffey.

In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his brother, Garon Bowles, and sister, Heather Mills, and his K9 companion, Missy.

Samuel was an electrician by trade and took pride in his work, but his greatest joy came from the people he loved. He had a special place in his heart for children and was truly a big kid himself-playful, warm-hearted, and always ready to have fun. With his wonderful sense of humor, he had a gift for making people laugh.

A diehard Eagles fan, he never missed an opportunity to cheer on his team. He also loved music, sports, and spending time with family and friends. In his younger years, he was a gifted athlete who played football and carried that same competitive spirit, energy, and determination throughout his life.

Those who knew Samuel will remember his generous heart, infectious laughter, unforgettable personality, and the happiness he brought to others. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives he touched.

He is survived by his mother, Reamona Bowles Coffey; wife, Ravyn M. Coffey; siblings, Brittany Shelton (Jake), Taylor Coffey, Trevor Sage; nieces and nephews, Joshua, Brooklyn, Breyden, Ahren, Kinsley, Lainey; uncle, Paul Bowles (Missy); cousins, Hannah, Jake,; aunt, Laura Brackenridge (Jason); cousins, Casey and Matthew; and his K9 companion, Bubba.

The family will welcome friends for a period of visitation on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, from 12 until 2 p.m. at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem.

A celebration of Sambo's life will directly follow visitation on Tuesday, starting at 2 p.m. in the funeral homes chapel.
