Saint Marcus Dowdy

Saint Marcus Dowdy, 85, of Salem, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2015. He was born in Giles County, a son of the late Bert and Lizzie Williams Dowdy and had been an area resident all of his life. A carpenter by trade, he was a hardworking man who loved bluegrass music, hunting and fishing. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sons, Donald Gene Dowdy and Gary Wayne Dowdy, Sr., and by four brothers and two sisters. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Ruby Bragg Dowdy; three sons, Robert Dowdy and wife Kelly, Randall Ray Dowdy, and Victor Dowdy and wife Connie; seven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; his brother, Jack C. Dowdy, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11AM, Thursday, April 23, 2015 at the Chapel of John M. Oakey & Son, Salem. The Rev. Danny Kessler will officiate. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8PM, Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at the funeral home.
