Ruth Earlean Underwood

God finally called Ruth Earlean Byrd Underwood, age 98, of Salem, Va. to her eternal home on Monday, March 4, 2019. She was born on Sunday, January 23, 1921, to the late Robert Sheffie Byrd and Evelyn Lee Mustard Byrd. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Harry Lee Underwood, Jr.; sister, Edith Delores Tuck; brothers, Harold Price Byrd and Raymond Byrd; and a niece, Carole Bower. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Karen Vaughan, and husband, Robert; one granddaughter, Anita Council-James and husband, Reggie; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. A graveside service to celebrate her life will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2019, at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens 5737 Airport Road NW, Roanoke, Va. 24012.
