Ruth Jefferson Kingery

Ruth Jefferson Kingery, 96, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2013 in Norfolk, Virginia. Ruth was born in Roanoke on June 30, 1917 to the late Ossie and Martha Jefferson. She was also preceded in death by her husband Elwood (Mike) Kingery and six brothers and sisters. Ruth grew up in Roanoke and was a lifelong member of Ghent Grace Brethren Church. She loved to play croquet and bingo and was affectionately known as Baby Ruth to many that knew her. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Carole Johnson and husband Charles of Norfolk, VA; two sons, Douglas Kingery of Suffolk, VA and Danny Kingery and wife Lee of Dover, DE; five grandchildren, Craig Kingery, David Kingery and wife Jessica, Erin White and husband Jamie, Andy Kingery and wife Rhonda and Jonathan Kingery and wife Lisa, and 11 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 22, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home, Salem, VA. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, December 23, 2013 in the Old Dominion Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with entombment to follow.
