Ruth Madeline Hoffman

Ruth Madeline Aliff Hoffman, age 82, of Salem, Va., died in her sleep on Saturday, October 29, 2022. She was born on July 6, 1940, in Shawsville, Va., the daughter of the late James William Aliff and Grace Melinda Trump Aliff. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, George Martin Hoffman; and one grandson, Joshua Jerimiah Morris. Surviving are a son, Glenn Allen Hoffman (Jean); two daughters, Ramona Morgan Bryant (Donald) and Janet Hoffman Phillips; granddaughters, Carolyn Grace Horvat, Charlene Elizabeth Phillips Carpenter (Nick), and Alaine Madeline Claire Hoffman Atencio (Steven); grandsons, Tyler Martin Phillips and Jacob Nicolas Martin Hoffman (Rikki); great-grandchildren, NKara Horvat and Micah and Ezra Carpenter; brother, Richard Aliff (Phyllis); nieces, Kim Aliff and Dawn Aliff Hall (Shannon); and two special fur babies, Dant and Oreo. Ruth retired from Salem City Schools after 20 years of serving in the cafeteria at Salem High School. She and her husband, George, loved to travel all over the United States even after Ruth was confined to a wheelchair. A celebration of her life will be held at her church, CommUNITY Church, located at 1923 East Main Street in Salem, Va. 24153. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. with the service beginning at 2 p.m. Interment will be held at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. A luncheon will immediately follow in the churchs fellowship hall.
