Ruth Boone Altis

Ruth Boone Altis, 72, of Salem, VA, passed away on Tuesday, October 5, 2010. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Annie Greer Boone; infant daughter, Lorna Deane Altis; infant son, Robert Duane Altis; brother, Daniel Boone; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Hazel Martin Altis. She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Robert (Bob) Altis, Jr.; daughter, Kelley Bragg and husband, Stanley, of Christiansburg, VA; son, Mike Altis and wife, Susan, of Cumming, GA; and grandchildren, Lauren and Haley Bragg and Matthew and Jamie Altis. She is also survived by 7 brothers, James (Jay) Boone and wife, Nancy, of Salem, Harry (Dune) Boone, Jr. of Salem, William (Billy) Boone and wife, Sylvia, of Salem, Richard (Dickie) Boone and wife, Lee Ann, of Roanoke, Roger Boone and wife, Elaine, of Salem, Charles (Chuck) Boone and wife, Linda, of Salem, and David Boone of Ironto; sisters, Sandra Boone of Edgewater, FL, and Lorna Lee of Salem, VA; special sister-in-law and friend, Joyce Altis Greenway of Roanoke; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ruth was retired from General Electric in Salem. Ruth lived her life by the philosophy that "no day is complete without making a memory". She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, traveling, and writing poems and stories. To her grandchildren, she was "the bestest Ganny in the world". The family extends their thanks to all of her friends and family who visited her over the past several months and for the compassionate care from Good Samaritan Hospice. A period of visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2010 at 11 a.m. in the funeral homes chapel. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Roanoke.
