Ruth (Ruthie) Scott Agner, 89, of Salem, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2013. She was a native of Hot Springs, AR and was a veteran having served in the Womens Air Corps. Professionally, she was a seamstress for Maid Bess, and held her church membership at Salem Baptist in Salem. Ruthie was a loving mom and very giving neighbor. Preceding her in death were her parents, Joe and Laura Scott; husband, James Andrew Agner, Jr.; numerous brothers and sisters; and a grandson, Adam Agner. Her surviving family includes her children, Scott Agner and wife, Ellen, Mary Agner and husband, Criss Nichols, Claude Agner, Sr. and wife, Diana, and Sarah Hodges and husband, Bobby; grandchildren, Jimmy Agner and wife, Kim, Sally Vest and husband, Eric, Andrew and Joe Agner-Nichols, Karen Love and husband, Tim, Claude Agner, Jr. and wife, Ashley, Joseph Agner, Paul Kipley and wife, Terri, John Kipley, and Laura Kipley and fianc, Shane Chapman; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Ellen Crotts and Martha Agner; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel. A funeral service will then be held on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the funeral homes chapel. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke. The Rev. Everett Kier will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ruthies name may be made to Salem Baptist Church at 103 North Broad Street in Salem, VA 24153.
