Ruby Clinton Walton

Ruby C. Walton, 98, of Cocoa, Florida and formerly Christiansburg, passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2015. She was born in Floyd County, a daughter of the late Jasper and Sally Walton. Following the death of her sister, she raised her twin niece and nephew, Marie Wirt Carr and James Wirt and was like their mother. She was employed as a seamstress for over 35 years at the Salem VA Medical Center. Prior to relocating to Florida, she resided with her nephew and his wife, James and Velva Wirt for over thirty years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, five sisters, and other family members including her nephew, James. She is survived by her niece, Marie Carr, with whom she made her home, and numerous great nieces and great nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2PM, Monday, October 19, 2015 at the Chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. The Rev. Stan Thompson will officiate. Burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for two hours prior to the service beginning at 12 PM.
