Ruby Helen Meador

Ruby Helen Meador, 96, of Roanoke, passed away while being surrounded by her family on Saturday, April 29, 2017. She was a member of Central Baptist Church and a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Preceding her in death were her parents, Harry and Maria Meador; husband, Sylvester Buck Meador; daughters-in-law, Aloma A. and Carolyn Meador; sisters, Estelle Lane, Gladys Lumbo, Geraldine Glinski, and Mary Jane Sumter; and brothers, Alton Meador and Harry Milton. Her surviving family includes her sisters, Edith Meador and Hazel Young; brothers, Oscar Meador and wife, Helen, Cecil Meador, Buddy Meador, and Ralph Meador and wife, Freda; special niece, Jeannie Meador; sons, Charles Meador of Blue Ridge, Kenneth Meador, Sr. of Shawsville, and Roger Meador I of Moneta; grandchildren, Sherrie Fisher of Roanoke, Ken Meador, Jr. and wife, Susie, of Boones Mill, Stephanie Carmichael and husband, Dave, of Georgia, Robin and Anne Marie Meador of Blue Ridge, Roger Meador II of Roanoke, Greg Meador and wife, Susie, of Roanoke, and Jason Meador and wife, Laura, of Norfolk; great-grandchildren, Ashley and Taylor Meador of Blue Ridge, Brittanie Fisher of Roanoke, Sarah and Shannon Carmichael of Georgia, Hailey and Caroline Meador of Norfolk, and Sylvia Meador of Roanoke. Special gratitude is extended to Carilion Hospice for their loving care and help to the family. A period of visitation will be held from 12 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem. The funeral service will then begin at 2 p.m. with Pastor Daniel Colston officiating. She will be laid to rest at 4 p.m. at Franklin Memorial Park in Rocky Mount.
