Ruby Thomas Jobe

Ruby Thomas Jobe, 96, of Salem, died on Sunday, July 22, 2012. She was married 68 years to Clarence (Burr) Jobe before his death in 2001. She and Burr were married young and devoted their lives to the family business, Jobe Florist in Salem, that they operated 7 days a week until retiring in 1984. She was a long time member of First Christian Church in Salem. Also preceding her in death were her parents, Jordan and Effie Thomas; brothers, Lerty Thomas, Herman Thomas, Ray Thomas, and Wayne Thomas; and her sisters, Opal Thomas, Ruth Thomas Hodges (her twin), Ora Thomas Garrett, Lura Thomas Vest, and Jean Thomas Moore. Her surviving family includes her sister, Charlotte Thomas Lichtenstein; and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews who she loved and who dearly loved her. Special thanks to Fentress Matthews, her dedicated care giver. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem. Burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The Rev. Dan Netting will officiate. The Jobe family is being served by John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, 540-389-5441.
