Ruby Bragg Dowdy

Ruby Bragg Dowdy, 78, of Salem, passed away Saturday, August 15, 2015. She was born in Cleveland, Virginia, the daughter of the late Thomas Henry Bragg and Alynne Kiser Bragg and had been an area resident most of her life. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, Marcus Dowdy; two sons, Donald and Gary Dowdy, and a brother, Thomas Buck Bragg. She is survived by three sons, Robert Dowdy and wife Kelly, Victor Dowdy and wife Connie and Randall Ray Dowdy. She is also survived by seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; five sisters; special friend and sister-in-law, Mary Sue Bragg as well as many friends and other extended family members. The family would like to take this opportunity to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Medi Home Health and Hospice, and especially to Carolyn Honig, for the love and care shown during Rubys illness. Funeral services will be held at 11AM, Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at the Chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. The Rev. Pam Mitchell will officiate. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM, Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at the funeral home.
