Rosemary Hoffman passed away peacefully on May 30, 2024. She was born June 11, 1929, to the late Mabel and Thomas Bresnahan in Blacksburg, Va. She graduated from Blacksburg High School in 1947, and Radford College in 1951. She worked at the Radford Arsenal while attending college and upon graduation, she began her teaching career at the Lusters Gate school where she taught for eight years. She then moved to Blacksburg Middle School where she taught English grammar and composition for more than two decades, retiring in 1994. Rosemary was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles. She appreciated classical music and attended many symphonies with friends and family. She loved and spoiled many Siamese cats throughout her life and was a connoisseur of fine dining and good red wine. One of her favorite places to visit was Charleston, SC where she enjoyed sightseeing, shopping, and dining with her family. In retirement, she enjoyed providing after-school care for her grandchildren, introducing them to afternoon tea and cookies. She was a lifelong member and supporter of St. Marys Catholic Church in Blacksburg. She is survived by her daughter, Marian, and son-in-law, Richard Evans of Ormond Beach FL; son, Lawrence and daughter-in-law, Kristi Hoffman of Blacksburg, VA; and son, Carl Hoffman of Blacksburg, VA. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Brittany Evans; Rachel Hoffman; Mary and Ella Hoffman and their mother, Reba Hoffman; and nieces, Diana Chandley and husband, Dennis, and Linda Herstrom and husband, Rick. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Brett Evans; as well as her brother, Tommy Bresnahan, and his wife, Patricia. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at St. Marys Catholic Church, 1205 Old Mill Road, Blacksburg, Va., 24060 by Fr. John Asare, with a reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Humane Society of Montgomery County or the Blacksburg Interfaith Food Pantry.
