Ronald William Kindrick, 79, of Salem, VA, also known fondly as Mr. Doctor Willcox, Dad, Pop, and Uncle Ronnie, passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2014. He was born on January 25, 1935 in Fort Smith, AR to the late Harley and Ruby Plymale Kindrick. He and his wife, Jan Willcox, D.O. moved to Virginia from Scottsdale, Arizona 12 years ago to be part of the beginning of the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) in the Research Park at Virginia Tech. VCOMs mission is to prepare globally-minded, community-focused physicians to meet the needs of rural and medically underserved populations. Ron was retired from real estate development with over 40 years of commitment to the real estate industry. He worked primarily in Tulsa and Jenks, OK as well as land acquisition for the campus of ATSU-SOMA in Mesa, Arizona for Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. His eye and love for architecture is evident in the numerous homes he built over his lifespan. His attention to detail in every home created within his mind was carried out without flaw by his hard work, diligence and his own two hands. Ronnies homes were always the most modern, impressive and fun places to hang out. In addition to his career, Ron also made time for leisure and family fun. Family and friends looked forward to his sense of humor, pool parties, costume parties and just come over and play parties. He was the perfect host with the best foods, beverages and music, but his stories were always the life of the party. He enjoyed traveling extensively, and with Jan by his side, participated on numerous medical mission trips to assist families whom were least fortunate. Cooking was a favorite creative outlet and he became known as the master of the grand salad by his family. Spending time outdoors, camping and fishing were also things he cherished. He was an experienced pilot and a skydiver with over 220 jumps. Above all, spending quality time with his family was of most importance, and his grandchildren were always at the top of his list! He was a very warm-hearted man, and someone who always left you feeling as if you were of most importance to him at that particular moment in time. He will be forever missed, but will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved him! In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Steve Kindrick, and his sister Dolly. Family remaining to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Dr. Jan Willcox; son, Kevin Kindrick and wife, Sallie (Houston, TX); daughter, Kathy Waeger and husband, Sheldon (Tulsa, OK); grandchildren, David and Scott Newman, Kris, Carly and Cole Kindrick; great-grandchild, Maylee Skye Newman; brother, Larry Kindrick; numerous nieces, nephews, his goddaughters, family; loving cats, (Duke and Tracker); and special friends the world over and his loving VCOM family at Blacksburg, VA, Spartanburg, SC, and Auburn, AL. At the familys request, services will be private. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Ron Kindrick and Dean Willcox Global Outreach Scholarship Fund, Development Department at VCOM, 2265 Kraft Drive, Blacksburg, VA 24060 or http://www.vcom.edu/give/missions.html.
