Ronald Preston Johnson, Sr.

Ronald Preston Johnson, Sr., 82, of Roanoke, Va., passed away peacefully after a long battle with dementia on Monday, June 9, 2025.

He was born on October 8, 1942, to the late Gravely Manuel Johnson and Myrtle Hill Johnson. Mr. Johnson retired from Fred Whittaker serving as a purchasing agent.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed being outdoors. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Lee Johnson, and a brother, Gravely Manuel Johnson, Jr.

Left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Amy Johnson Rigsby and husband, Brandon Rigsby; son, Ronald Preston Johnson, Jr. and wife, Kat Johnson; grandchildren, Jeremy Johnson and wife, Dora Johnson, Joshua Johnson, Emilee Mikayla Rigsby, and Fallon Shea Rigsby; great-grandson, Julian Johnson; sister, Sandra Ilene Johnson.

A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem with Josh Carlisle officiating. The interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem.

Friends may visit with the family from 1 p.m. until the hour of the service.
