Ronald (Ron) Lee Hall, 80, of Salem, VA passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on December 31, 2014. He was born in Harrisburg, PA on September 29, 1934 to Raymond Irvin and Charlotte Miller Hall. He was a graduate of John Harris High School and proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War Conflict. Though a Yankee by birth, Ron spent most of his adult life in Salem, becoming a true Salemite. He loved his adopted city and was a lifelong supporter of the community through athletics and other endeavors. He was fondly remembered by many as a volunteer baseball coach and was a fixture at the Salem Stadium and the The Moyer Sports Complex. Ron loved his family and friends. Greeting everyone with a smile, he never met a stranger. He was a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Penn State Nittany Lions! Ron was predeceased by his parents, siblings Ray, Betty, Robert, Barb and Dick. His beloved grandson David Michael was waiting for his Paw Paw. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Verna; also surviving are his children, John (Dawn) Hall, Digs (Susie) Hall, and Kimberly Tuell (Kenny). Also surviving are grandchildren, Sarah Hall, Kathryn Hall, R. J. Hall, Steven Tuell and Amy Tuell. Brothers, Roger, Reed and Ross and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. The family and friends will receive visitors from 4 to 7 pm at John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home, Salem on Sunday, January 4, 2015. Funeral services will follow at 2 pm on Monday, January 5, 2015 with Rev. Tim Gearhart officiating. Burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Salem Rescue Squad or Calvary United Methodist Church. Online condolences to the family may be made at www.johnmoakey.comVisitation
