Mrs. Rome Schlater Johnston Tuttle, age 96, died March 30, 2013. She lived for ninety years in the home in which she was born in Salem, VA until she went to reside at Richfield Retirement Community. Preceding her in death was her husband of 44 years, William McComb Tuttle. Rome graduated from old Salem High School and Roanoke College. She was a legal secretary for many years, retiring from Woods, Rogers, Muse, Walker & Thornton law firm in Roanoke. She is survived by her son Robert and wife Pat of Black Mountain, NC; daughter Diane Tuttle of Salem; grandson Chris Tuttle and wife Carrie of Durham, NC; grand-daughter Sarah Edgecombe and husband Robert of New Orleans,LA; and great-grandchildren Ella Brooks, Heath and Wilson Tuttle, and Nina Edgecombe. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 3, 2013 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son funeral home in Salem. A Service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held at Salem Presbyterian Church on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 11 a.m. Reverends Will Robinson and Janet Chisom will officiate.
