Robert Minor 'Bob' Willis

Robert (Bob) Minor Willis, 100, of Salem, passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2014. Bob was born on February 24, 1914 in Salem; son of the late Edward and Nettie Willis and his step mother, Lilia Willis. Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy M. Willis; sisters, Mary W. MacNeil, Wilma W. Stiff and Alma C. Riley. Bob retired from Roanoke Iron and Bridge Works with 49 years of service and was a long-time member of Salem Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and Trustee. Bob was a member of Berean Sunday School Class, President for 20 years of The Salem Breakfast Club and a 60 year member of Taylor Lodge #23 where he served as Worshipful Master. During his retirement Bob enjoyed gardening, wood working and especially enjoyed his Sunday School Class and Breakfast Club. Bob is survived by three daughters, Dot Harris and husband, Randy of Salem, Mary W. Florence and husband, Ron of Houston, TX, and Teresia McNabb of Salem; son, Robert M, II (Bobby) and his wife, Barbara of Newport News, Va.; sisters, Claudine W. Reese, Winnie W. Friend and Lorraine W. Thornhill; 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. A number of nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services to honor Bob's life will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at the Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Clark officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem where Masonic rights will be conducted. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 from 3 until 7 p.m. at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. Flowers are welcomed and/or donations may be made in Bob's name to Salem Baptist Church, 103 N Broad Street, Salem, Va 24153.
