Robert Mark "Bob" Smith

Robert (Bob) Smith, 57, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, August 8, 2016. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Dan Smith. Bob was born on Saturday, January 17, 1959, in Gulfport, Miss., to Margie and Dan Smith. He lived the life of an Air Force brat, eventually landing in Salem, Va. He graduated from Andrew Lewis High School in 1976, and then proceeded on to Virginia Tech, as a Sigma Chi, and graduated in 1987. He maintained a love of all Virginia Tech sports throughout his life, a season ticket holder in football and basketball for over 30 years. He was president and original co-founder of Quantum Medical Business Services. He was active in his community; he served the board of the YMCA, Better Business Bureau, Center in the Square, College of American Pathologists, and Healthcare Billing and Management Association. He also took pride in serving his church, Salem Presbyterian, as a deacon among other positions. Throughout his very accomplished life, Bob was most proud of his family. Bob felt truly blessed to have two such beautiful children that he considered the most special to his heart. He enjoyed many activities with his children and had a passion for leading and coaching youth sports in Salem, including many undefeated seasons. He also loved the great outdoors. He was a generous host, and loved sharing his familys blessings. His vacations were often, by his choosing, surrounded by his extended family and his childrens friends. More than anything, Bob will be remembered for his upstanding courtesy and genuine care for the well-being of his friends and family. He had a way to make those around him feel special; he always knew what to say and when to say it. Bob would tell you he learned it all from his dear mother Margie, who deserves so much credit for the man that Bob is. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Jacquelyn (Jackie); his son, Austin Mark; his daughter, Emma Louise; as well as his mother, Marjorie B. Smith. He is also survived by his sister, Cindy Brewer and her husband, Jim, and their daughter, Madelaine; and his brother, Dan Smith, and his children, Quinn and Luella. He is also survived by countless other friends and family that he would feel deserve recognition. The family will receive visitors from 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at Salem Presbyterian Church. A funeral service will also be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 12, 2016, also at the church.
