Robert E. Pollock, 77, of Salem and formerly of Merrick, N.Y., peacefully reunited with his son, Matthew, on Wednesday, August 30, 2017. Matthew predeceased him on July 14, 1980. Robert, affectionately known as Dad, Poppy, and Mr. P, was born on October 4, 1939, in Freeport N.Y. to the late Francis J. and Irene G. Pollock. He was a graduate of Notre Dame University, honorably served in the U.S. Military, and worked in the Financial Industry for over 40 years. In retirement, he volunteered his time at family businesses, Rising Star Sports and Adventure Camp and The Cornerstone Bar and Grill. He was well known and respected in the Roanoke community. Mr. P was a very recognizable figure on the sidelines of North Cross School athletics, and particularly with his grandchildrens soccer and lacrosse games. He was devoted Poppy to Christopher, Hope, Gray, Geist, Jordin, Joseph, Brianne, and Parker Pollock. He was extremely proud of his family and all of their accomplishments. He will always be cherished and fondly remembered by his children, Janine, Chris and Gay, Brian and Denise, and Kevin Pollock; his brothers, John, Paul, and Alan; and their families. In addition to his parents and son, he was predeceased by his brother Frank. His family is grateful for his life and his guidance. We are also grateful to Jeannette Hayes for her compassionate care and the staff of the Joseph C. Thomas Center, at Richfield Retirement Community, who have become like family. He lived life to its fullest and on his own terms. We have all been blessed. Godspeed, Dad, and we will see you over the Rainbow. Go, ND Fighting Irish! A Wake will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, September 3, 2017, at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. The Funeral Mass will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 4, 2017, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, also in Salem.
