Robert Emory 'Bob' Parker, Jr.

Robert Bob E. Parker, Jr., 88, of Salem, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 8, 2017. He was a member of the Salem Pentecostal Church which is now known as Christian Life International, and taught the junior boys Sunday School class for 22 years. Bob was a true outdoorsman and avid gardener. Preceding him in death were his parents, Robert E. Sr. and Myrtle V. Hale Parker; sister, Viola Moses; and daughter, Lisa Ann Parker. His surviving family includes his wife, Betty Parker; children, Paula (Jimmy) Thompson, Jim (Retha) Parker, Susan (Mike) Pedigo, Beth (Darryl) Brickey, Patty Parker, and Debbie (Lee) Stocks; grandchildren, Jessica and Rachel Brickey, Joseph and Jamie Parker, Braden and Grace Stocks, and Danny (Angie) Thompson; and great-grandchildren, Kiarra, Taryn, and Brayden. The family extends special thanks to the 6 west medical and nursing staff at Lewis-Gale Medical Center, Good Samaritan Hospice, and Dr. William Fintel for their loving care. A period of visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 10, 2017, at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2017, at Sherwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
