Robert Alfred Lipscomb, 76, of Roanoke, VA and formerly of Covington, VA passed away Friday, September 10, 2010. He made his home in Covington, VA for 68 years and has been in Roanoke with his family during his remaining years. He retired from Mead-Westvaco. He was born May 6, 1934 in Covington, VA son of the late Raymond and Ambra West Lipscomb. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Pam Lipscomb of Salem and Dennis and Marsha Lipscomb of Covington; sister, Lenda Liptrap of Vinton; brother-in-law, Fred Liptrap of Vinton; aunt, Elizabeth Crawford of Roanoke; five grandchildren, Erin, Matt and Emily Lipscomb, Shannon Hayes and Amy Lipscomb; five great-granchildren; and two nephews, Scott and Kevin Liptrap. Bobby was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church and the Wesley Sunday School Class. He loved his family, his church, riding in his car, hamburgers and the Redskins. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 3 to 6 pm at the John M. Oakey and Son, Salem. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am Monday, September 13, 2010 at Calvary United Methodist Church in Salem with Pastor Timothy Gearheart and Pastor Emory Tarpley officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Covington at 3:30 pm on Monday. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Unit 2, Salem Health and Rehabilitation Center for being a blessing to Bobby and his family through their care, love and friendship.
