Robert L. Bob Koogler, 85, of Roanoke, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, August 27, 2012.
He was born in Roanoke County, a son of the late Troy Koogler and Katie Lamb Koogler and had been an area resident all of his life. He proudly served our country in the United States Navy during WWII and was employed for many years in the Quality Control Department of General Electric prior to retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Lakeside Group and Ridgewood Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Koogler and a sister, Polly Lancaster.
He is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Delois DeHart Koogler, whom he married on Christmas Day 1951; a son Mark Koogler; daughter, Ginger Booze and her husband Richard; a granddaughter, Katie Besche, her husband Tony and their daughter, Jillian; a brother William Koogler; two sisters, Doris Lancaster and her husband Jackie, and Ruth Palmer, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, and Debbie Fail, whom he thought of as a second daughter.
Services will be held at 11AM, Thursday, August 30, 2012 at Ridgewood Baptist Church. The Rev. Roy E. Kanode will officiate. Burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8PM this evening (Wednesday) at John M. Oakey & Son, Salem. Memorial contributions may be made to Ridgewood Baptist Church General Fund, 703 Hemlock Rd. N.W.
