Robert G. (Joe) Cotton, of Fredericksburg, went to be with the Lord on August 18, 2014. He was born February 2, 1934 in New Orleans, during an older time of Jazz music, swing dancing, and horse racing. The last days of a bygone era have passed. Preceded in death by his beloved wife Mildred Cotton, his mother and father, four brothers, and two sisters. Survived by one sister, one brother, three sons, five daughters, two step-sons, two step-daughters, numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and sons and daughters in-law. Joe was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and a wonderful father, grandfather, brother and friend. Most of all, he was a role model for step-fathers everywhere. May he and his beloved wife forever dance among the clouds. A graveside service to honor Joes life will be conducted at 12 p.m. Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Roanoke. Family and friends may gather from 9:30 am until 10:30 am at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, prior to the graveside service.
