Robert Hunter Cooper, Sr. 94, of Roanoke, Va went home on Saturday, January 25, 2025.
Born Saturday, July 5, 1930, in Franklin County, Virginia to the late Walter James Cooper and Laura Lee Stump Cooper.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by all his siblings and one grandchild.
Robert proudly served in the United States Army in the 82nd Airborne Rangers Division, where he developed a strong passion for jumping out of planes with his fellow soldiers.
Robert enjoyed walking in the woods and all wildlife. He had a deep love for his family, his church community, and especially for the plane rides he shared with his good friend, Lee Anthony.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Deana L. Porterfield (Brian), Pamela C. DeHart (Jim), Robert H. Cooper, Jr. (Dreama), and Donna C. Naff (Rick); nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. As well as his special friend Jean Watson and her family.
A heartfelt thank you to the CICU staff at Lewis Gale Hospital for their outstanding care, and to Amanda, James, and Daniel for their invaluable support when it was needed most. We would also like to thank Jim DeHart for all his help and support during this time.
A Celebration of Robert's life will be conducted on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 2 p.m. at the Cloverdale Church of the Brethren, 4708 Reed Mountain Rd. Cloverdale, Va. Military Honors will be presented by the Virginia Army National Guard.
