On the morning of Friday, December 4, 2015, Heaven gained another angel. Richard Allan Workman, 45, of Salem, passed away. He is survived by his mother and stepdad, Janie and Ronnie Sowder; father and stepmom, Johnny and Marie Workman; sisters, Debbie Hopkins and her husband, Mac, and Amy Sowder; brother, Ronnie Sowder Jr. and his wife, Angela; nieces, Jenna, Mackenzy, Myah, and Alivia; nephews, Nick and Matthew; his beloved puppy, Addy Grace; special friends, Kim and Steve Switzer who helped take care of Richie the last year; and longtime friends, Roger (Pee-Wee) and Mike Stafford. Richie had a love for drag-racing, playing poker, watching movies, cooking, and spending time with his nieces and nephews. The family sends a special thank you to the nurses of the Lewis-Gale CCU on the third floor for their care as well as to Pastor Don Woodard for being there for the family.
A memorial service will be held at Beacon Baptist Church, 307 N. Bruffey Street, Salem, VA at 1 p.m. on Monday, December 7, 2015 with a time of visitation one hour prior. A committal will follow at Piedmont Cemetery in Shawsville, VA.
