Richard Alan Pierce

Richard Alan Pierce, age 77, of Salem, Va., passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. He was born on June 24, 1947, to the late Margaret Mann Pierce and Donald Laverne Pierce in Salem. Richard drove a truck for over 50 years with various companies but retired from Ruan Transportation in Salem. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Wilbur and Glenna Mann; mother and father-in-law, Ruby and James H. "Cotton" Owens; and sister-in-law, Dreama O. Kiser.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Karine Owens Pierce; children, J. Travis Pierce (Brittni), and Kristin P. Rickman (Tony); grandchildren, Kendal Pierce, Brendan Pierce, Caroline Rickman, and Lucas Rickman; sister-in-law, Glenda Bastress (Buddy); and daughter-in-law, Kristy Kline.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, October 7, 2024, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, with Pastor Steve Parker officiating. Burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem.

Friends may visit with the family from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at the funeral home.

In honor of Richard, the family asks that you dress casually preferably in jeans if you attend the service, he hated dressing up!
