Richard E. Johns, 54 of Salem, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2011. He was born on December 12, 1956 to the late Frank Edison, and Margaret Huffman Johns in Norfolk, VA. Mr. Johns will be remembered mostly for his creative talent in carpentry, as he was a skilled carpenter for over 10 years. His 34 years of marriage is testimony for his devotion to his wife, as well as to his children and grandchild. He extended his love beyond his family, as he was referred to by friends as a man that never met a stranger. Mr. Johns was survived by his wife of 34 years, Mary Johns; two sons, Chad Johns, & wife Stephanie, and Eric Johns; daughter, Missy Wallace, & husband William; brother, Theodore Johns, & wife Brenda; sister Carol Overstreet & husband Donald; grandson, Elijah Wallace; grandchild to be, Crispin Wallace, and faithful dog, Harley. A graveside service will be conducted on Monday, October 17, 2011 at 1p.m. at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Roanoke. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 16, 2011 from 5 until 7 p.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to the American Heart association, American Diabetes Association, or Angels of Assisi of Roanoke.
