Richard Wayne Clark Sr.

Richard Wayne Clark, Sr., 89, of Roanoke, Va., passed away of a heart attack early Tuesday morning, February 21, 2017. Richard was born on Wednesday, July 6, 1927, to the late Flora and Jay F. Clark in Indiana, Pa. He was graduated from Allentown Bible Institute in May 1948 with a degree in Theology. On June 5, 1948, Richard and Anne Vanzandt Fink were married in Albany, N.Y., and in July 1948 at age 21, Richard accepted his first pastor position at the Pilgrim Holiness Church in Wells, N.Y. His 15 years in the ministry took him to Wells, N.Y.; Gypsy, Pa., Lisbon, Ohio; Elyria, Ohio; Donora, Pa., and Salem, Va. He retired from the ministry in 1963 and subsequently continued to live and work in various positions in the Roanoke area. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Richard Wayne Clark, Jr. Richard is survived by his wife, Anne; his daughter, Joyce Clark Bryan and her husband, Robert W. Bryan; his son, Jonathan David Clark, Sr. and his wife, Christine T. Clark; grandsons, Benjamin Clark Bryan and Jonathan David Clark, Jr.; and granddaughter, Sarah Anne Clark. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 24, 2017, at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2017, in the funeral homes chapel with Eric Evans officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the Salem Church of Christ located at 401 West Main Street.
