Richard O Boresen, 92, of Salem, and originally from Norway, passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2014. He was born January I, 1922
in Halden Norway to the late Richard and Charlotte Boresen. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Martha Boresen and one of his sons, Ole Boresen. Mr Boresen was a third generation tanner and he immigrated to Salem from Norway to head the laboratory at the Lease and, McVitty tannery in Salem. He and his wife was enchanted with the beauty of the Roanoke valley. Soon he became a Unites States citizen. After Lease and McVitty ceased operation in 1971 Mr Boresen, well known and respected in the tannery field, went on to represent
Rohm and Hass as Far East Director traveling between Japan, South Korea, Philipines, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.
After 12 years in the Far East he then spent 5 years working for the Hush Puppy Shoes Corporation in Rockford Michigan.
Mr Boresen and his wife retiered to their beloved Roanoke valley in 1986. He is survived by his two loving children, Ragnar Boresen of Berkeley, CA, and Maiken Boresen of Salem.
