Rebecca M. Wilkerson, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 20, 2011.
She was born in Radford, a daughter of the late Garland McDaniel and Ruth Epperly McDaniel and lived in Salem most of her life. She retired from Lewis Gale Medical Center and private duty as a nursing assistant. She was a long time member of Salem Pentecostal Holiness Church where she was an active choir member and Sunday School Teacher. She lavished love and care upon all those whom she encountered. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wagner Wilkerson, two brothers, a sister, and two great-grandchildren.
She is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Diamond and her husband Douglas, and Linda Woods and her husband Leon; a sister, Aurelia Abrams; six grandchildren, Jeanne, Ben, David, Sara, Katie and Gabrielle, as well as two great-grandchildren, Dahlia and Gabe.
The family would like to take this opportunity to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Franklin Health & Rehabilitation Center for the love and care shown to Rebecca during her time there.
Funeral services will be held at 2PM, Wednesday, November 23, 2011 in the Chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. The Rev. R. G. Quesenberry will officiate. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
