Rebecca Elizabeth Hughes

Rebecca Becky Hughes passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 2, 2023, in Salem, Va. She was born in Royal Oak, Mich., on Sunday, December 28, 1997. After graduating from high school, Beckys free spirit took her to Salem, Va., with dreams of hiking the Appalachian Trail, which she ultimately did. She was welcomed to Virginia with open arms and southern hospitality, becoming a Southern Belle at heart. She found joy in the simple beauty of life, sunflowers, butterflies, and the Becky Daisy. She loved winter, the water, fishing, and swimming in her special spot on the Roanoke River, as well as sunning on the beaches of the Atlantic Ocean. She was an incredibly talented and passionate artist who took her inspiration from the nature and people she surrounded herself with. Becky built a life in Virginia that included community service projects, the Salem Rotary, and anything that involved helping kids. Her laughter and humor were infectious, and her smile could light up a room. Becky was a kind soul with a giving spirit and was loved by everyone who met her. She is survived by her parents, Sue and John Hughes; and her brother, Ben Hughes. She is dearly missed by all her extended family and friends, but especially Jake, Rooney, Bex, and Sam.
