She graduated from William Fleming High School (Class of 1967), attended Virginia Western Community College, and graduated from Hollins College (Class of 1973) with a B.S. in Biology. Becky was lovingly married to Mark Hancock (deceased) of Salem, Virginia, for 46 years, living in Hollins and Salem, Virginia. Together they raised a son, Jeff Hancock, and shared the blessing of two beloved granddaughters: Zora and Hazel Hancock. Becky is survived by Sherry Snyder (niece), Michael Snyder (nephew), Ashley Dane (niece), Chris Webb (nephew), while being predeceased by her nephew Rusty Snyder. She was blessed with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins in her life.
Becky served as a science teacher in several schools in the Roanoke Valley: Lucy Addison Junior High School, North Cross School, and various schools in Roanoke County and the City of Salem. Becky was a faithful Christian, attending a number of churches over the years, including Airlee Court Baptist, Shenandoah Baptist, Enon Baptist, and Salem Baptist. In addition to her faith, family, and vocation, Becky participated in a number of charitable organizations, with the last years of her life involved in Project Healing Waters and Trout Unlimited - Trout in the Classroom. She was active with a group of women who shared a love for flyfishing and fly tying. Along with her husband Mark, an avid British sports car collector, she was involved with the British Automobile Club of Southwest Virginia, Shenandoah Valley British Car Club, Morgan Owner’s Group, and Carolina Jaguar Club.
The family would like to express a special appreciation for close friends and neighbors who stood by Becky and were much loved and appreciated: Kathy Mueller, Rosie Fox, Seyward McKinney, Rachel Fauber, and Maria Leach. Numerous others brought joy to Becky’s life over the years and for all those folks the family is very appreciative.
