Rebecca Rhudy Gearhart

Rebecca Rhudy Gearhart, 77, of Salem, passed away August 7, 2014. Born July 28, 1937 in Burkes Garden, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Ruth Rhudy, and her brother, Bill Rhudy. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, George; two sons, Keith and his wife Cheryl, and Paige; and two grandsons Lane and Grant. Additional surviving family includes her sisters, Mattie Hubbard and Mary Myers; and her brother Levi Rhudy. She is a graduate of Madison College and retired from Roanoke County Schools, having taught third grade for 22 years. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 10, 2014 from 3 until 5 p.m. at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 11, 2014 at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem, with Chaplain Dave Vanderpool officiating. The family would like to express its appreciation to Dr. Mark Currie and his staff, the Infusion Center staff, and the nursing care at 6 West at Lewis-Gale Hospital.
