Rebecca (Becky) Lou Flinchum, 84, of Salem, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 20, 2017. She was born on March 28, 1933 to the late Herman and Myrtle Gearheart. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Flinchum. Her surviving family includes her daughter, Lori Helvey and husband, Jim; son, David Flinchum; grandchildren, Katie Reed and husband, Justin, Tommy Helvey, Emily Peters, and Jacob Flinchum; brother, Thomas Gearheart; and sisters, Edith Hall, Joe Lovern, and Lucille Linkous. The family extends a sincere thanks to special caregiver, Gladys, the MICU staff and 6th floor care unit at Lewis-Gale Medical Center, and the Salem Rescue Squad for their wonderful care. Family and friends may gather from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, May 22, 2017, in the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at Riverside Evangelical Methodist Church, also in Salem, with Pastor Brian Gordon officiating.
