Raymond Crawford

Raymond (Barry) Crawford, 69, of Roanoke, passed away on Friday, June 28, 2013. He was born in Catawba, VA; son of the late Edward and Alma Crawford, along with his parents he is preceded in death by a brother, Charles Crawford; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jane and Gene Orange; a brother-in-law, Leon Thacker; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Atkins. Barry was a life long area resident, he proudly served his country in the United States Army, he retired from the, Virginia Department of Forestry, he was an avid sports fan of all different sports, he enjoyed spending time outside, feeding the birds, and he was well known to play the role of Smokey the Bear at the local elementary schools and Christmas parades. Left behind to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 38 years, Linda Crawford; daughter, Jennifer Crawford; brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Susan Crawford; sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Steve Bandy; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Donnie and Fran Hatcher; sisters-in-law, Judy Thacker, and Pearl Crawford; brother-in-law, Bill Atkins; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, a host of friends and loved ones. The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 30, 2013 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, in Salem, with a funeral service to honor the life of Raymond (Barry) Crawford to be held on Monday July 1, 2013 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Timothy Wilson officiating.
