Phyllis Ann Lockridge, 75, of Salem, beloved wife and mother, has been called home to our Lord. She was born on March 8, 1947, daughter of the late Benjamin Herman and Josephine Josie Brickey Headrick. Phyllis was a graduate of the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind; graduating class of 1968, where she will be remembered as the 1968 class Homecoming queen and where she would fall in love and eventually marry the love her life, Clifton B. Lockridge. As a mentor to other students at her school, she was always willing to help and encourage anyone that needed a little help. As a homemaker, Phyllis was proud to take care of the many roles of caring for her family over the years. If she were not in the kitchen whipping up something wonderful for the next meal, you may have found her knitting or sewing a piece of clothing, or maybe even cutting one of the kids hair, as she was the parttime beautician as well. From a young age, Phyllis gained her knowledge and love of sewing and knitting, as she would often make her and her siblings clothing. She was also no stranger to cooking. She could make the best Chex mix and homemade fudge that you had ever tasted. When not at home taking care of her daily duties, you may have found Phyllis serving others as treasurer for the Roanoke County Club for the Deaf, or possibly taking a little down time to spend time with her Lord reading her bible. She was a simple person who cared for everyone and enjoyed the simple things of life. Above all, Phyllis will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many. It is certainly without saying, but she will be dearly missed! Family remaining to cherish her memory includes her loving husband of 53 wonderful years, Clifton B. Lockridge; sons, Perry Lockridge (Jinnie), and Dale Lockridge (Michelle); granddaughter, Sierra Lockridge; sister, Eula Jean Walker (Bruce); brother, Leslie Headrick (Barbara); and numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends. Per the wishes of the family, a private memorial service will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting www.johnmoakey.com. Service Details.
