Phyllis J. Charlton, 76, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 6, 2014 for her eternal rest and healing following a courageous battle with metastatic cancer. Her lifes greatest work was being a loyal wife, a mother to six children and a best friend to her sister. She is preceded in death by her parents, John W. and Allie M. Kesler, and her husband Bobby Charlton.
She is survived by her six children, Steven Charlton and wife Darlene, Lisa Glass and husband Bruce, Jonathan Charlton and special friend Paul Glenn, Mary Shelor and husband Gene, Karen Harris, and Katie Charlton, whom she had devoted the last twenty years to as her caregiver. Phyllis leaves a legacy of 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, the newest born December 5, 2014. Also surviving are her sister Loretta Light and husband Wiley, brother Carlton Kesler and wife Jean, and sister-in-law, Chris Charlton.
Funeral services will be held at 2PM, Monday, December 8, 2014 at the Chapel of John M. Oakey & Son, Salem. The Rev. Walter Wood, Jr. will officiate. Burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM this evening (Sunday) at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2840 Electric Rd.
