Pauline Evelyn Spangler, 91, of Roanoke, died peacefully on Thursday, May 9, 2019 surrounded by her loving caretakers.
She was born in Patrick County, a daughter of the late Albert and Helen Lyon and has been an area resident for most of her life. She worked as a clerk with her father at the Floyd Country Store and later packed parachutes in Pennsylvania during World War II. In 1946 she married Mac Spangler and shared 58 wonderful years together until his death in 2004. She was a longtime member of Fort Lewis Baptist Church.
Mrs. Spangler is survived by her three children, Jean S. Grubitz, Russell Spangler and wife Sarah, and Allen Spangler and his wife Tina. She is also survived by six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the wonderful and caring staff of South Roanoke Nursing Home.
Services will be held at 2PM, Monday, May 13, 2019 at the Abbey Chapel at Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem. The Rev. Leonard Southern will officiate. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fort Lewis Baptist Church 4215 W. Main St. Salem, VA 24153.
