Paul Quentin
Sanders
January 22, 1940 – May 22, 2026
Paul Quentin Sanders, 86 of Salem, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by the grace of the Lord, Friday, May 22, 2026.
A proud Army veteran who honorably served his country during the Vietnam War, Paul carried the values of duty, strength, and humility throughout every chapter in his life.
Born Monday, January 22, 1940, among the beautiful hills of Glen Fork, West Virginia, Paul never lost this deep love for his home state. Whether cheering on the West Virginia Mountaineers, sharing stories of the mountains he treasured, or simply enjoying the peaceful spirit of West Virginia, always remained close to his heart.
Paul spent many years as a dedicated truck driver before retiring from Hatchett Trucking Company. Known for his strong work ethic, dependability, and quiet wisdom, he earned the respect of everyone who knew him. The open road suited him well, but nothing mattered more to Paul than his faith, family, and simple joys in life.
A longtime and faithful member of Ridgewood Baptist Church, Paul’s life was rooted in his love for the Lord. He found comfort and joy in old-school gospel music, often filling the room with timeless hymns that reflected the steadfast faith he carried so gracefully. His gentle spirit, warm smile, and unwavering devotion touched countless lives over the years.
His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him, and his legacy of faith.
Preceding him in death include his parents, Croba Sanders and Mary Jane Harvey Sanders; his first wife, Billie Richardson Sanders; his sisters, Iris, Mamie, Norma, Peggy, and brother Douglas.
Left to cherish his memory includes daughter, Helen Sanders; sister, Barbara, of Nashville, TN, and brother, Rodney, of Springfield, MO, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home located in Salem, VA. A service honoring Paul will begin immediately following the visitation at 6:00 p.m. with Pastor Hilton Jeffreys officiating.
Interment will take place on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Palm Memorial Gardens in Matheny, WV.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Amedisys Hospice for their compassion, comfort, and dignity shown to Paul during his final days. A very special thank you is extended to his nurse, Hannah, whose exceptional care, kindness, and gentle spirit. Your love and dedication will never be forgotten.
