On Sunday morning, November 15, 2015, God sent His angels for the most devoted, and loving of His children, Paul Richardson Dye. After a thirty year battle with cancer and chronic heart disease, Paul has completed his task here on earth. He leaves behind all those who will continue to mourn this kind, gentle soul whose greatest desire was to care for those around him. Each of us remaining will remember and mourn the absence of the loving voice who called each day and said, "Just checking on you!"
Born on June 3, 1960, Paul Dye graduated from Sacred Heart Jr High School (Danville, VA), Grundy Sr High School (Grundy, VA), completed two years of study at Southwest Virginia Community College (Richlands, VA), and received diesel mechanic certification at Virginia Western Community College, (Roanoke, VA). Loving anything that had wheels, he worked in Buchanan County (while still in high school) at Honda Motors repairing both cars and motorcycles. Later, he drove his own coal truck, known as Dog Fashion. His company was P and J Trucking. Moving to Roanoke, Virginia, Paul acted as delivery for Carrier Equipment through Ryder Logistics, ultimately receiving disability retirement in
2009. After this, he began his most beloved task of caring for his (now eight year old daughter) Addison. He was a member of the Rocky Mount Presbyterian Church and served for four years as elder on the Session of that church.
He was preceded in death by his five year old daughter, Shani Lei Dye in 1991. Those remaining to cherish the memory of Paul Richardson Dye are: his loving wife of thirty years, Janie P. Dye; his daughter, Addison Marie Dye; parents, Bob and Sue Dye; brother, Robert Dye III and wife Ann; sisters, Kimberly Fralin and husband Dave, and Lisa Sine and husband David. Also remaining to mourn are beloved nieces and nephews: Robert, Laura, and Michael Fralin; Lee Dye, Kathrine Beeson; Dave Sine, and Cassie, Ethan and Cody Prater; as well as god-sister/friend Mary Harmon; brother-in-law/friend Ronnie Prater and wife Sandy; loving in-laws, Bobby and Yvonne Prater; and Sederick and Cheryl Hayes (god-father and god-mother to Pauls daughter, Addison).
The family will receive friends at John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home; 305 Roanoke Boulevard, Salem, VA, on Wednesday, November 18, 2015, from 6 to 8 pm. The Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, November 19, 2015 at John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home with Dr. Russ Merritt officiating. A graveside service will follow in the Abbey at Sherwood Memorial Park.
