Norman David Pace Puddin, 86, of Salem, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2011.
He was born in Henderson County, NC, a son of the late David Plato Pace and Annie Melinda Bane Pace and had been an area resident for over sixty years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Geraldine Wright Fariss Pace; two daughters, Joan Young and her husband Mike of Charlotte; Gwynne Satterfield of Rock Hill, SC; a sister, Betty Titus and her husband Paul of Spencer, NC; one niece, Denise Overcash, two nephews, Kevin and Brian Titus, and their families. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a special son-in-law, Kin Satterfield.
Norman was a World War II veteran who served in the US Navy aboard the USS LST 53 on D-Day during the Normandy Invasion. He retired from General Electric in 1987 following many years of service. In addition to his love of God and family, he was an avid harmonica player, for which he received numerous awards.
The family would like to thank Dr. Joseph Bono, Dr. Michael Malpass and Dr. Fredrick Swartzendruber, as well as the nurses and staff of Lewis Gale Hospital for their excellent care.
Funeral services will be held at 2PM, Saturday, March 19, 2011 in the Chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home. Pastor Steve Parker will officiate. Burial will follow at East Hill Cemetery where Military Honors will be afforded by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Military Honors Team. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Living Well Church of the Nazarene, 3631 Evelyn Dr. Salem, VA 24153.
